Watercolour & Gouache on Paper 25x20cm. 2017
Coastal Bunker is one of series of paintings of battle grounds, fortifications and military structures: seen as if flying low over the (archaeological?) site. This one is on Scapa Flow.
The abstract richness of the shapes & forms and the weathering of the concrete contribute to a robust image: although designed and built without any such aesthetic ambition.
This touches upon another of my interests: the unintended and sometimes perverse consequences of much human effort.
