Wind Instrument

Wind Instrument

Wood, Apple Branch, Lego & Ceramic
Dimensions: Various. Box Closed: 48x19x23cm

These components have been around the studio for years before coming together in this piece. The form of the box is determined by the contents (A Draped Sheet of Ceramic Material and an Apple Branch) in the same way that a violin or trumpet case is formed according to the contents.

The work has affinities with Tools, Scientific & Musical Instruments, Toys and Games, and the boxes they come in with echoes of unfulfilled childhood aspirations to a Meccano Box No 10.

You can take the components out of the box and arrange them in a variety of different ways.
In so doing you might forecast/determine the future, measure inaudible sound, or play a mute melody.

Or maybe not.
