Blitz 2: (Saint Paul's). 2016 Watercolour & Gouache on Paper 43x58cm
I spent many weeks/months on this painting. It started with a squared up drawing from composite photgraphs and I spent hours painting the damaged and undamaged buildings. Some spatial depth is revealed through the shadows cast by broken walls and surviving buildings.
None of the photgraphs showed the smoke and fires which would be an inevitable cosequence of the bombing. So I put them in using photgraphs from other similar sites.
